This opening is both heartbreaking and infuriating, and I immediately felt deep sympathy and anger for Emma, who deserves so much better than the betrayal she receives. She is a powerful, intelligent, wealthy hidden CEO who gives up everything—her status, her fortune, her pride—to support the man she loves, helping him build a career and a life from absolutely nothing. She stands by him during his hardest days, invests all her resources and love into his success, and believes their love is real. But as soon as he becomes wealthy and successful, he reveals his true selfish, ungrateful colors, abandoning her cruelly and humiliating her publicly for a richer, more socially powerful woman. The way he forgets everything she did for him is disgusting, and Emma’s kindness is repaid with nothing but cruelty. This episode perfectly sets up her revenge arc, and I was instantly ready to watch her take back control.
